Juliet currently teaches from her home in Exminster, just outside Exeter. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with her pupils and helping them to realise their full potential. Her students range from children wishing to work their way towards singing exams, to members of local bands or choral societies wanting to improve their technique. She also enjoys working with people who just want to sing for fun or who were told as children that they couldn’t sing and now want to give it a go.
Juliet’s teaching is based on the premise that everyone who wants to can sing. She introduces sound breathing and voice production techniques and then applies them to whatever repertoire the pupil prefers to sing - anything from pop, through jazz and folk to opera.
She has also been exploring Estill Vocal Training and recently attended a three day course of lectures and masterclasses in London. The method uses thirteen different figures for voice which, once they have been mastered, give the singer more control over the individual anatomical structures within the voice production system. Understanding how the voice works allows a singer to use their voice flexibly in new, exciting and, ultimately, more satisfying ways. If you are interested, Juliet is happy to incorporate some Estill Training into your lessons.
Juliet has also begun teaching music theory up to intermediate level (Grade 5 ABRSM). This can be offered as part of a singing lesson or on its own. She particularly enjoys working with children, using games and fun exercises to introduce the language of music. She is happy to teach small groups (maximum 4) as youngsters often benefit from the security of learning with their friends. Juliet has CRB Enhanced Disclosure.
If you are interested in learning to sing or read music, or want to expand your existing technique / knowledge please give Juliet a call.
